Bill Stempel was a 1954 graduate of Cleveland High. He was all-league in football and became a member of the Shrine team. He played on the 1953 state basketball team and he also played basketball and track. He played all four sports in college where he earned all-conference honors and All-American honors in football while competing for Lewis and Clark. Bill played semi-pro football for three years following collegiate graduation.
